This week Ida's Liz Mitchell comes into Chicago to record a Smithsonian Folkways podcast with the world famous children's music recording artist Ella Jenkins. This is Ella's 50th anniversary of recording for Folkways. Her first LP "Call and Response" was released in 1957. It also just so happens to be Chicago's Old Town School of Folk's 50th birthday SO we are recording Ella and Liz in the Old Town School for this very exciting event. Recording duties will be handled by me and Barry Phipps of North Branch Studio.

Ella Jenkins is 82 years old and is known the world over as "The First Lady of Children's Music". In addition to releasing 31 LPs for Folkways, Ella was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2004 Grammys. Ella is still releasing records and touring the world.
