Ludwig Pedal Tympani

I searched for months on the internet for a tympani that was inexpensive and also local so I could pick it up and not have to pay for shipping since they are very very heavy things. I finally found this one and drove out to Crete, IL to pick it up. Upon my arrival I commented to the seller on how beautifully it had been polished and shined up. He said his 'old man' did it. I assumed he was gay and was speaking of his 'husband'. He actually meant his 92 year old dad! HE MADE HIS 92 YOUR OLD DAD POLISHED THIS TYMPANI!! He did a great job too... it is beautiful! I was told later by a percussion major that it was probably worth close to two grand. It was a real 'Antiques Roadshow' moment. My eyes swelled up with tears. Ok, they didn't but I was even happier about my purchase.
I more often use this as a reverb chamber than a drum these days, though I did just get a bunch of new soft mallets…
